ICASS VII: Circumpolar Perspectives in Global Dialogue: Social Sciences beyond the International Polar Year
Guided Tour from Keflavík International Airport to Akureyri on 21 June 2011
On 21 June there will be a special offer of guided bus tours from Keflavík International Airport to Akureyri; one in the morning and one in the afternoon, both departures in connection with flights arriving from Europe and North America. The departures will be at 08:30 and 17:00. Price per person: ISK 11900.
This is a great opportunity to learn about the nature and culture of Iceland while travelling comfortably to Akureyri. The busses are modern and with seat belts. We need a minimum of 40 persons to register for these tours. Look for this offer when you register for the conference. The tour is open to ICASS deligates, and their companions - even if not registered to the conference.
Route Description (see map) This route is the main thoroughfare between Reykjavík and Akureyri and paved all the way. The route is variegated, for example you will see lava in various forms, agricultural areas, mountain roads, villages, etc. There is a licenced tour guide on the bus, a guide who is familiar with the lay of the land, history and culture of Iceland, and should be able to answer most of your questions.
The estimated time of the tour is six hours. There will be one main stop (approx. 45 minutes at Staðarskáli) where you can buy nourishment and stretch your legs. Other short stops can be made for taking photos and enjoying the view. |
