Arctic Yearbook Releases 2025 Edition: War and Peace in the Arctic

New “Emerging Voices” section

Reykjavík, 27 November 2024 — The Arctic Yearbook is pleased to announce the publication of its 2025 edition, titled “War and Peace in the Arctic,” now fully available online. This year’s edition brings together a collection of 15 scholarly articles, 10 briefing notes, and 6 Emerging Voices contributions, alongside commentaries and the editorial team’s introductory reflections.

The 2025 edition is published at a time of global uncertainty, where instability, accelerating climate impacts, and rising geopolitical tensions are reshaping Arctic governance and cooperation. The selected works respond to these challenges with analysis and insight and offer perspectives on power, defence, resources, and human and environmental security.

This year brings also something new to the table for Arctic Yearbook: the launch of the Emerging Voices section. This initiative provides a platform for early-career scholars, graduate students, practitioners, and writers outside traditional academic pathways. The section reflects the Yearbook’s commitment to broadening access and inclusion to Arctic-focused research and recognising the importance of diverse voices in shaping informed debate.

The Arctic Yearbook editorial team expresses its gratitude to all authors, reviewers, and collaborators for their continued trust and support. As an independent, open-access publication, the Yearbook remains committed to strengthening informed dialogue in the Arctic region.
